A website.

First, allow me to apologize for my lack of posts this week. I asked for prayer about my oral surgery and failed to give you all an update on that. Please forgive me! The surgery went well and I had no complications, except a brief panic afterwards where my blood pressure plummeted and they had to put me on oxygen for a couple minutes... after that, I was fine. I enjoyed lots of rest the first couple days, watched movies and read books and just relaxed. The last couple days, the swelling has pretty much gone away and I can finally smile regular now, and I'm beginning to chew my food now (though no chips or steak :-) ). Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes this last week; I have been so blessed by the kind notes I've received!

Now for the blog challenge. A website. :-)

FAMILY HEIRLOOMS
My mamma just started up this blog last week to catalogue her collection of pictures, newspaper articles, and documents she's gotten in her genealogy studies. The family history is really quite interesting. Mommy's most recent posts are about her great-grandparents who were settlers in North Dakota and Saskatchewan! Anyway, she has been posting pictures and other things she's found over the years, and I thought some of my friends interested in history might enjoy looking at them! I am! :-) Here's a sneak peak of her pictures--North Dakota homestead!

I'm sorry my post was not more detailed; I was going to share more websites of various topics but somehow it didn't save when I left my computer, and it's late now and I need to head to bed. :-P

Good Blogs to Read, Part 7

Will it be for the pursuit of human desire? Or the sacrifice of self for a deeper, richer desire we cannot half-comprehend? How are you to occupy the rest of your life? I’m not talking about what you’ll major in in college, or what your next job will be, or what the next step will be, but what are your mental, spiritual and emotional pursuits be? It’s a difficult question. It’s funny, I can’t say what I’ll do tomorrow, but I might tell you I’m going to strive for holiness the rest of my life. Spiritual things are much more certain than physical or material. And yet it is the spiritual that is doubted, the material that’s depended upon. God is ignored while men rely on money and their jobs to see them through everything. And what fails them in the end?"

This is an excerpt from a recent post on Ruby's blog, Carpe Diem, in which she talks about human desire and the need for us to allow God to purify and create our desires to glorify Him. Americans, in general, are brain dead, striving after pleasures of all kinds that fail to glorify God. Life is "all about us" and we waste our lives chasing after things that will pass away instead of holiness and an everlasting relationship with God. In this article, Ruby encourages her readers to put aside fleeting things and pursue God and true holiness.

Ruby is a fantastic writer. She takes the time to think out a subject, and then communicates it in a way that challenges her readers to act upon it. Besides posts like the one discussed above, she also has some wonderful posts in which she explores a certain aspect of a well-known classic, or sometimes she just talks about her family and daily life. I would highly encourage you to swing over and check out her blog. I'm sure you will enjoy what you read!

It's been a while since I had a poll on here. If you scroll down a little on the sidebar, you will see a poll: "Whom is your favorite Jane Austen hero?" I'm sure all of us would marry one of them (or someone like one of them) if we could. ;-) I voted Henry Tilney (*sighs dreamily* ;-) ), though I also really like Edward and Colonel Brandon, and... well, all of them! Except perhaps Wentworth; he is a rather frustrating character until after Louisa falls...

And no, I didn't include Henry Crawford, John Willoughby, George Wickham, or any of those dishonorable fellows. :-P

Something to Really Think About....

In our interactions with lost people in the world, it is easy to focus on "reforming" them-- trying to get someone to stop smoking, picketing some place to help stop abortion, etc.-- and miss giving them the answer to their real need-- Jesus. Pastor Chris Anderson has some good thoughts on this topic over at his blog.

Be sure to check out his other good articles while you're there. He has written or quoted some very thought-provoking words on the Christian life, evangelism, and modern trends in "Christianity".

A Note on the New Blog "Inkblots"

Several people have asked me about my new blog "Inkblots". So I'll just explain it here...
It's a private blog (well, so is this, but Inkblots is actually a private blog) for authors. It is it share, compare, and edit each other's works. At the present, it is not going to be open to everybody just yet, as I still am getting it started and all, but as it comes together, we may invite more readers.

Virtuous Woman post

PRAYER REQUESTS

PLEASE PRAY...

* That I would draw nearer to God every day and never allow my relationship to become stagnant ritual; particularly that I would grow in the area of submission, patience, 1 Corinthians 13 love, and wholehearted devotion

* That I might have wisdom as I edit "The Marquis' Daughter"; that the Lord would bless and work through it; and that I might find just the right publisher for it.

* That I would submit to the Lord's work in my life, whatever it may be; that I would take each opportunity He brings me (even the seemingly hard ones) to draw closer to Him and point others to Him

*That our Etsy shop might be successful and that it would be a means by which we can glorify God and share the Gospel
